<p>My father Shri Nandkishore Kajaria runs a printing press that caters to corporate clients and the industry in general. Presently moving towards book printing, his successful business has struggled through rainy days. I want to push his dreams further. The best way I can do it is to pursue a research based (so that there is enough scope to think independently and celebrate novelty) management and technology course in a prestigious university that nurtures a culture of learning and out-of- the-box thinking. </p>
<p>The fact that PENN has a reputation for the qualities of education I am looking for needs no exaggeration. What is even more significant is the fact that the idea of out-of-the-box thinking runs in my blood. With due humility, I would like to share an experience during the school fest. Vedant Dalmia, a classmate and myself, conceived of a unique method of hanging several plastic bottles as the backdrop of the stage for the annual Bosco Fest so that the lighting gave a distinct suspension effect for the writing BOSCO FEST 2012 decorating the stage. Not very appreciated by the more conservative minds, it won over the young crowd. My teachers appreciated my creativity and my sense of combining technology and aesthetics. I must also thank my school and reverend Salesian Fathers that they gave me a chance to be in the Student Council so that I should be closely monitoring the management of the Bosco Fest, one of the most popular fests in the town. If my love for technology is something I have inherited from my father, watching him spend countless hours of sweat in the subtleties of printing technology, my love for management has a lot to do with the few responsibilities I have been entrusted with by my school authorities and fortunately been able to successfully carry out. It is not that my father does not manage the business as well as the managers. It is just that I have seen my father more as a technical person than as a manager. </p>
<p>As far as the concept of out-of the-box thinking is concerned, I need to assert here that my fathers innovative ideas were mocked initially when he decided to purchase a new four color press (Heidelbergs Speed Master 52) to enhance his business; this was something which was not in vogue at that point of time and the cost effectiveness of such extravagance in the contemporary Calcutta market was mocked. However, he did shoot ahead of others in the market as he continued with his innovative designs using technology that was ahead of its time (as far as Calcutta was concerned). I want to study chemical engineering and apply my detailed and analytical knowledge of engineering not only to further revolutionize not only printing technology but other connected areas of study as well! Jerome Fischer offers the best in this regard!
