My family and I go to Mexico once a month to make some extra money. Basically we buy things for really cheap over here (like at the dollar store) and sell them more expensive in Mexican flea markets to make some profit. (even though we sell the stuff more expensive over there, the prices are still considerably cheap since the stuff in Mexico is kinda expensive).

Is this illegal? I’d just like to know so I can advise my parents.

thanks!

EDIT: also, some of the stuff we sell, we make ourselves (kinda). like for valentines day, we took some soap, melted it on the stove, and poured it in heartlike containers and dyed it red to make heart-shaped soap… stuff like that…

Assuming Mexico places tariffs on those goods, it probably isn’t legal there. Of course, it’s probably not the only crime going down at a Mexican flea market

Seems like something you ask a lawyer or someone who knows the law well; and not a bunch of students.

If it is illegal, you can’t tell the judge, "Well, Petey said it was fine. His credentials? He made it to the 10th grade; that’s his credential. "

though it would be funny if you did.
On second thought, use CC for law advice.

Yeah, it sounds illegal to me. I just saw a video on a Mexican doing that in El Paso, and she got caught. If it’s illegal for them, it’s more than likely illegal for you, too.

I’m not sure on this, but it depends on how much stuff you bring each trip. If the stuff you are bringing into Mexico is valued under a couple hundred dollars (I don’t know the exact amount, and I think it may vary for different goods), it should be legal. Beyond that, and you need to pay customs.

Well we have the right to take a certain amount per person, a limit that we never exceed, so paying customs isn’t really an issue. my concern was more like, since it’s money that doesn’t come on my parents’ paychecks, what will the IRS think.

and Beautifulnights, my parents are more concerned with paying the bills lol

I’m just asking since he seems so overly concerned- considering his parents would ideally be the ones researching the legality of their business.
