Is this just a coincidence...

I’m not sure how many of you are familiar with Z i n c h. It’s a site that allows students to be recruited by colleges, to learn about scholarship opportunities, etc. Anyways, I’ve had a profile for a while now and Columbia finally sent me a message because they are quote “excited to ‘show me some love’ and introduce me to the distinctive undergraduate experience they offer students.” In the body of the message, they also sent me a link to the waitlist enrollment page for Columbia. Do you think this was just by accident, or that they are telling me I’ve been waitlisted before decisions have even been released?

Wow, that is kind of strange, I have no idea, is there some way for you to reply or did it seem like a mass email rather than personalized?

It actually seemed personalized and the link to the waitlist enrollment is specifically for 2009 applicants (me). Z i n c h says that Columbia has downloaded my contact information, but there is no way for me to reply.

You think that Columbia would want to “show you some love”?

Sounds like a scam to me and they’ll be asking for your social next…

seems like an error. they’ve written “please add your name to our mailing list”. I don’t think that they wanted to whisper “hey, we are giving you a hidden sign”

i got the same. and have not a grain of chance. blah :/

I got the exact same message:

I don’t think it means anything.

I wouldn’t think it means anything, but the link to the waitlist page is odd…

o shoot i got the same, and when i clicked it i got sent to the waitlist page also…praying this isnt true =(

:O

I got that same thing today too!!
I was like, “Huh?
What is this?”

I’m only a high school sophomore, I haven’t applied to any colleges yet!

It’s probably meant for juniors applying to college this fall rather than seniors waiting for news.

The waitlist page is probably a mistake. They probably meant to send you to the request information page (mailing list).

I wonder if someone could just enter in their Columbia ID and get added to the waitlist, haha.

That’s just what I was wondering. Any brave soul willing to try?

Hi, I’m a student at Columbia and I can imagine the anticipation seniors must feel waiting for an admissions decision. This is clearly a response to join the general mailing list from **, not Columbia Admissions. I emailed an admissions officer who just confirmed that it is an inadvertent link that should be taking you to the request more information about Columbia page. I would not read anything into the inadvertent link or the message from . Good luck this Tuesday!

whoops, those asterisks are supposed to say “Z i n c h”, without the spaces. :)
