This is a question on behalf of a friend of mine–she’s an editor for this pretty big, worldwide magazine. She invests a lot of time into it, and is wondering if her position can be counted as “leadership”.
Thanks!

It is assuming she’s actually doing more than just editing other peoples’ work. I assume she helps to determine which stories will be written/published, how to reach new/existing audiences, how to finance the magazine, etc…If she’s just editing articles, that’s a great technical skill - it’s still an EC - but doesn’t show a lot of leadership.
Just a reminder that ‘leadership’ isn’t the end-all and be-all of ECs or college admissions. ECs are also a way to demonstrate creativity, innovativeness, risk-taking, empathy, determination, self-confidence, persuasiveness, generosity, and many other important qualities that colleges like to see in their student bodies. A school full of ‘leaders’ would be quite stifling.
On a separate note, @PassionPoet, Princeton Admissions hosts an annual Creative Arts and Humanities Symposium the last weekend of September (the didn’t have it last year because of a meningitis outbreak, but presumably it will be scheduled again this year). It’s fully funded for about 90 high school seniors around the country, and by invitation only. You have to be nominated by your school, and I believe only certain schools are sent letters soliciting nominations. You might want to talk to your GC or school principal about whether they have received invitations to nominate in the past, and expressing interest, particularly given your interest in Princeton.
If I recall correctly you are a rising junior, so you may not be eligible this year, but it’s something to look into.
