In some classes, I study my very best, take the class seriously and get good grades. But in others, I put in the same best effort and I get the average. Is this normal? I feel so down sometimes when I put my best effort only to get the average.

For example:
In intro to micro and macro I studied hard and got 3.7 and 3.6 respectively, because I put my full effort in the classes.

In intro to financial and managerial accounting I got 2.9 in both classes, but I still put my full effort into the classes.

I don’t know if it’s normal but it definitely happens, I think people just don’t talk about it so much. I spend hours everyday after school in my calc class working on homework and getting help from the teacher, and I still didn’t get a stellar grade. It just depends on how well the material clicks for you and if you’ve ever been exposed to it before I guess. I’m sorry you didn’t do as well as you wanted in that class, but don’t worry I’m sure it will be fine

It could be due to the professor, the difficulty of the subject, your peers, your aptitude or your interest in the subject.

How does your school do grades? Percent times 4.0?

Sometimes you need to develop different study habits for different types of courses. Learning math processes is different than memorizing biology facts, which is still different from learning philosophy. If your study habits aren’t providing the grades you want, try something else. It is certainly possible to have areas of opportunity and areas of strength, so your grades may vary based on your interests and skill level. But it doesn’t hurt to try different study techniques as well.

It’s completly normal. Some classes that others find relativly easy, I find very difficult and some classes I find insanely easy, others struggle.

It’s also possible that your not studying the material in the most efficient way for those subjects.

Since it is just some classes, yeah it’s normal. That is how my bio lab is, I can study till I’m blue in the face and still just get a 3.0 or 3.5. It just depends on who’s grading, how they grade, and just the material and what is graded. Sometimes classes are just hard.

Like others have said you might want to try changing your study habits. Like instead of studying for the exam studying what you learned in lecture that night.
