During my sophomore year in high school, I joined the golf team and met a close friend, Adam. He was fun to be around, enjoyed the same television shows, and loved to play video games with me. Even though we had so many commonalities, our differences proved to be more numerous. Adam never challenged himself in school. He enrolled in regular classes because Pre-AP courses required more work than he wanted. He hardly gave his best effort in golf because he feared failure; it was much easier to be terrible. Overall, his nonchalant attitude about life led him to spending most of his time playing video games. Once, I asked him what he wanted to do with his life, and the seriousness of his simple answer shocked me: “Game.”
