is this possible? - leaving at this point

So, I am incoming freshman at NYU. I’ve already registered for my courses but haven’t paid yet, as the tuition bill has not arrived. Paying for NYU was going to be a challenged, but parents and I were up for it and thought it would be somewhat manageable. However, my dad just lost his job and has started receiving unemployment benefits. So, is it possible to leave NYU now and go to CUNY Hunter? I never replied to their offer of admission, and I just checked on their admitted students portal - I can still accept/decline. So it is possible to de-enroll as a student at NYU at this stage in the game?

It should be, If you were really set on going to NYU, give them a call. Normally your allowed to post-pone for up to a year for money/mission/travel/etc. Also, I know that if your familly situation changes it is possible to get more financial aid.

Of course if you were blinded a little by the process and have decided that CUNY Hunter would be better for you so you don’t have to go into debt, you should be able to turn down NYU. If you had any housing, tuition, admissions deposits, those are non-refundable. For most people they add up to around $1800 I believe.

Good Luck

Yes you can leave NYU, even if you had paid your tuition you would be able to enter the tuition refund plan and get all of it back. With the admitted students portal giving you that option it really shouldn’t be a problem at all.

Before you leave NYU, make sure you call Hunter to confirm they have a spot for you. You do not want to leave NYU and realize your seat at Hunter was given to someone else.
