Is this possible

So I was looking through the “OFFICIAL Stanford University RD Decisions - Class of 2014” stickied at the top of the Standford University forum. Anyway I was looking how I compared to some of the accepted students, and I got to page 5 and noticed a user “aztec91” was accepted to Stanford with a 20 on ACT, and his course rigor is not great, and his EC’s are not great, granted he did have a 4.0 GPA. Then I saw many people declined with 2400 SAT’s and the whole nine yards. The only thing that stood out to me on his post was that he was a Mexican student meaning URM.

My question is that is aztec91 a ■■■■■? or does Stanford accept many under-qualified students because of their ethnicity?

I am NOT trying to knock aztec91!!!

bump any responses…

Under-qualified? How would you know? Because of the 20 on the ACTand ECs that didn’t stand out to you? You see URM and jump to the conclusion that THAT must be the reason but there is so much more to this applicant that you didn’t see.

Who knows - maybe that 20 reflects that English is a second, or third language? Maybe he or she has no ECs because they were working in a family business, or taking care of younger siblings, or lived an itinerant life… Distance traveled and making the most of the opportunities you do have counts a great deal, as does being the first in your family to attend college (15% of Stanford’s freshman class this year, are in this category, by the way). I wouldn’t be so quick to assume that this student had nothing but a 4.0 and a URM status going for him or her.

I haven’t looked at the post itself, but it’s probably a ■■■■■ post. Or a bitter rejected student who wants to make Stanford look bad. Don’t believe everything you read on the internet, especially not this site.

I am 1/2 URM, and I use the word “under-qualified” VERY loosely. When I said under-qualified I meant in the eyes of Stanford, you don’t see many people with a 20 ACT get into Stanford thats what I meant.

So calm the f*** down.

Phanatasmagoric, I don’t think it could be a ■■■■■ post because he talks about coming from Mexico and only being in the states for 2 years.

That could be construed as something a ■■■■■ would say, too. ;)

Could be, I just hope I can score well on the ACT, and get into Stanford.

Any other opinions on this… bump

i don’t see how looking doting on last year’s threads will have any impact on whether you get in…
so many pointless threads on CC.

I just wanted, an idea of the statistics of admitted students, and I wanted to see where I fall compared to them.
