Is this possible?

After touring Penn’s beautiful campus today, I’m seriously considering applying. I really like how Penn encourages its students to take courses from several of the colleges. So, I am wondering if it is possible to apply to Penn’s joint program in Nursing (from the Nursing School) and Health Care Management (from Wharton) plus a major in Theater Arts from the College? Theater studies are very imporant to me and I definitely would like to continue learning about the theater in college.

I don’t think it’s possible. Nursing students spend 6 hours at a time in clinic after freshman year. If they have structured that double major with Wharton, then it must be possible, but a third major or minor I would think is out of the question.

That’s really too bad because I was determined to take theater in college. Anyway, you seem to know quite a bit about the nursing program. I can’t find adequate information about it online. Would you (or anyone) mind telling me more about the program? (the 6 hours ata time in clinic, preparation for med school, required courses, admission %) Thanks for the help!

It’s definitely possible.
The “joint program” is actually a minor that requires 8 courses. So yes, you can major in Theater Arts.
Here’s a link with info.

thanks for the info, likeachild! Is the joint program really a minor though? I had no idea…thanks!

nono, there’s the nursing-hcmg joint degree program too, two separate programs

as a side note, it is generally not recommended that you pursue a nursing degree if you wish to apply to medical school. Vocational majors and health science majors are the only groups of majors that do noticeably poorly in the admissions game, and many schools are reluctant to take newly-minted nurses when there is a major nursing shortage.

If you want to do premed and theater arts, you can major in Theater Arts in the college and take your premed requirements, and take a couple HCMG courses if those interest you; nursing is unnecessary and unwise unless you want to become a nurse.

Thanks for the honest answer, phillySASer08. I will definitely take that into consideration. Is it difficult, however, to take so many courses from so many colleges?

No, all schools use the same course listing and registration system. It’s almost always no problem.

A small number of courses will require you to get a permit (they could be by default limited to students in a certain school or even a certain major), but that is usually no more of a hassle than emailing the professor.
