Is this program GYII "legit"?

Hi, I just received a lot of packaging and a few emails from the Global Young Innovators Initiative Program saying that I was accepted and had been nominated (possibly by one of my teachers). The program sounds really interesting, but I just want to make sure that it isn’t a scam. Can you guys help me out? Thanks!

Most likely legit. I’d google the program as there have likely been many discussions (eg http://www.nytimes.com/2009/04/19/education/edlife/leadership-t.html?_r=0). Most of these programs tend to be money-grabs, as in they are legit as they do what they say but ultimately really useless and costly. I have received tons of these over the years, and most of them end up in the bin.
