Is this realistic?

Hi,
I am currently a junior in high school and I would really like to go to Vanderbilt. Here is some information about me:

  • 3.87 unweighted GPA
-4.64 weighted (with 7 APs so far. will take at LEAST four more next year)
-Section leader of Maryland Classic Youth Orchestra
    -Section leader at school orchestra
  • National Honors Society
  • Science honors society
    -Member of Project change
-Volunteer with special needs adults once a week for two years
    -SAT score: 2160
  • ACT score: 32
  • Lacrosse player. Not exactly a varsity freshman kind of good, but I have always been in the starting lineup.
    Something interesting:
My bio teacher would probably write me a good recommendation considering that we have done a couple of independent experiments together that are not related to the class curriculum (ex: growing a pineapple and other plants through vegetative propagation)
If I do know that it is my first choice and apply for ED, is there a reasonable chance?

Your GPAs are fine but SAT seems to low, and your ACT is on the lower side of middle 50%. Retaking either one may bring up some chances.

ECs seems to lack(honors societies are virtually space fillers in high tier schools) but maybe you can play around the independent researches.

That being said, if your first choice is Vandy, then go for it. However, note that there are many other kids with similar or better stats.

Thanks for the advice!

OH I forgot one vital piece of information and i can’t edit this thread, but I am currently trying to write a book about my dad’s escape from communist Vietnam to America. Hopefully I can get it published.

While it does sound interesting, know that ANYONE can publish a book. It will be little boost unless it becomes a bestseller, which is unlikely within a month

Vanderbilt will be a reach, but if you apply early you have a chance.
