Is this schedule doable?

I just wanted your opinion on whether or not my schedule is doable for next semester.

I am taking 16 units, and am in 2 extracurriculars which I will continue next sem., taking around 11 hours of practice/work a week. Additionally, I have to get a paid job on that, taking another 10 hours a week. I also want to take some classes at the gym for say 2/3 hours a week. I might join another club as well next semester, so basically, would 16 units and 30 hours of ECs/work a week be doable?

(Keep in mind, right now I’m only taking 15 units and have only 11 hours of ECs per week…but I do waste a lot of time and I spend my weekends out. Can there be a smooth transition?)

Well, it sounds like you have some time in your current schedule (and energy or you wouldn’t be contemplating such a full load). Some people actually find they are more efficient and work at a higher level when they are very busy. I say, go for it! Just prioritize your activities/classes ahead of time. Actually, write them down in order of importance to your long-term goals. Then, if things start to get overwhelming next year, start dropping the activities off from the bottom of the list. The key is to know when to scale back from an ambitious load, before you lose perspective and everything starts to suffer. I’m not saying this will happen to you, but you will need to monitor yourself for burn-out or meltdown.

College is the time to try out these kinds of things. You’re young, you have energy, you’re in one of the best places to learn in the entire world! I think it will work out for you.

One advice: try to see if there is a way for you to combine your extra-curr. interests with your job. Examples: friends at Cal ushered for Cal Perfomances, worked at the PFA/Museum, ref IM games, etc.

Ah to update this thread : have any of you done URAP? I really, really want to. Any info appreciated.

what’s URAP?

Undergraduate research: professors are your mentors. That sounds uber-exciting, not being facetiosu either. I’d love to do URAP for history.

Ok, i just wanted to tell someone, even if it’s random people on the net who don’t care, but I got a job!
