As a hopeful future Foreign Service Officer, the main thing attracting me to The George Washington University is the Elliott School of International Affairs.

The modifier at the beginning, does it work even though the rest of sentence after the comma doesn’t start with “I”?

you could write “As a hopeful future Foreign Service Officer, I am attracted to the [not The] George Washington University primarily by the Elliott School of International Affairs.”
or . . .I am especially attracted to the GWU by the"
or . . .“one of the GWU’s biggest attractions for me is the Elliott. . .”

is it in fact “the GWU” or “GWU”? in the case of some institutions, either is fine.

As someone who hopes to be a foreign service officer, the main thing attracting me to The George Washington University is the Elliott School of International Affairs.

Or, “I’m interested in the Elliott School of International Affairs, because I hope to be a foreign service officer.” Why mention GWU in this sentence?
