Why do students flock to the online learning environment? With over 4 million students are enrolled in online schools and universities (and that number is growing 30% per year).

If they would like to forgo the best 4 years of their lives sitting in front of a computer all day, then so be it :D

I think the huge growth in this style of learning is primarily people who are returning to or continuing their studies. Another subset are those not currently well served by either community colleges or four year schools that they’ve attempted to squeeze uncomfortably in their lives in the past due to the lack of an alternative.

I doubt we’ll see all or even most learning go to the “online classroom”, but there is a huge set of people not optimally served by the traditional system that online courses can cater to quite well.
