is this the major 4 me

I’m very into sports and I’m always into the stats column. Also for cars I’m always aware of the prices and the market value. Everything for me seems to be about getting the best price or the best offer. It seems as though I’m into numbers. Is business the major for me. I thought about majoring in marketing but havn’t been too sure yet. I want to do brand management. Any responses are welcome.

Every aspect of business deals heavily with financial numbers - everything and everyone within a business is on a budget. If you like pricing, you might think about finance. If you like marketing, go into marketing and minor in finance or accounting.

I was wondering what is finance is it dealing with the budget of some firm.

Budgets yes, but less accounting and more forecasting. For example, an accountant might ask various people within a company how much they spent this month on parts to make something. A financial analyst would use that accounting data, and other research, to decide what sort of impact using cheaper parts would have on sales, the profit the company gets on those sales, and the overall quality of the product.

okay thanks that clears it up. So is the best school for UG finance Stern.

arguably so. although i don’t know if finance is the major for you.

What would you suggest thought? Also now I have been really into the market value of used cars after just recently owning one. I have been constantly looking at values of used cars. It is very intersting learning about them.

well finance encompass much more than just ‘prices’. being interested in values of object does not mean that finance is a good fit for you. numerical inclination is always a good trait to have in finance, but no guarantee you’d be interested in understanding how the world economy works… what are all those jargons in Financial Times they are talking about… many things.

let me ask you first, what do YOU want? what kind of job you can see yourself doing in the future?

Well, I seem interested in doing international business. For example I would love to travel to Japan and China and start business there and come back and forth to the U.S. Also brand management sounds very cool. Like being a brand manager for Adidas or Nike and making ads.

There are many jobs in business where one will never deal with financial numbers.

If you are into sports and business, then why not Sports Management as a major? It’s the best of both worlds.

I’m similar to the OP. I love dealing with numbers and I also want to travel the world for my job. I was considering a double major in international business and finance. Does this make sense for me? If not any other suggestions (sorry if im kind of stealing this thread OP)

It’s okay, I am also trying to get some insight of what I should do in my life lol.
