Is this too much for a freshman?

I am going to UCSB as a Physics Major with a premed emphasis. I want to join club rugby, participate with a medical program called Santa Barbara Street Medicine, and volunteer at a hospital. Is this too much activities for my first year? Will it interfere with my studies?

It depends on how many hours these will take of your time, how good you manage your time, how hard your schedule is, etc. If you are taking 18 credits and take a long time to study, definitely not. It you are taking 12 easy credits, probably.

And don’t forget that after you break your leg, it’s gonna take longer to get across campus… but at least you won’t have too far to go to volunteer at the hospital when you get your shoulder dislocated - you’ll be right there!

JK! My D played club rugby, and loved it. It was also extra helpful when she did stuidy abroad and got to play with the first 15, and helped make study abroad a great experience.

It really boils down to the points that aqse made.

I don’t plan to spend so much time each week on the activities, except for rugby if I make it. I was thinking maybe volunteering about 3 hours a week at the hospital and 10ish hours for the Street medicine program, since they will train me to be a medical scribe. But thanks for the insight
