is this too much for my first semester?

M408D
CH301
UGS302
PHY 303k/PHY 103M
ME 302

I have BIO 311C
M408D
CH 301
UGS 303
BME 102

I’m a little worried too. i heard it completely depends on the profs you get. who do u have?

Yeah I keep hearing these horror stories…
the ones we have similar:
M408D - Ceparro
CH301 - Cowley

Ceparro is a good teacher i heard. haha
But I think Cowley is a little hard… hmm…

No. There is no such thing as “too much” your first semester, unless you had issues in high school.

I would have to disagree soadquake. I think taking 17+ hours for anyone, especially freshmen, is a lot. Definitely go easy at least your first semester with 12-15 hours to get a feel for UT classes (even if you had tough AP classes in hs), then after that you can decide if you want to up the ante.

xnewbie and dhs-- the calc, chem, and ugs classes that you have aren’t too bad. Always depends on the professor though. Your harder ones will probably be the engineering classes

If you are planning to go to med school; make sure that you take a full load. Medical schools like to see that you can handle a full load. Anybody who is premed should use these links.

What if your 17 hours encompasses “soft” classes? Mine went from 14 to 17 simply because of AST 301…

ilovetexas11111, YOU ARE A BEAUTIFUL HUMAN BEING!

xnewbie, you’re on track to take CH302 and CH204 (lab) in the spring, and that’s going to be a ton of work. CH 204 is way more work than you’d expect for a two credit course, so just be aware of that when you’re planning for spring.

thanks but I’m actually a M E
So no ch204 for me!

It depends on how good your time management skills and study skills are. If you took plenty of AP courses and self studied for a few AP exams in high school, then you should be fine with taking more than 12 hours. I took 16 hours my first semester of freshman year and did fine.

It does depend on how “good” you are at time management and such. I took 17 hours my second semester with 3 hours of research per day.
