Is this too much?

So I'm really scared about college and I want to be realistic and get decent grades, y'know?
This is the schedule that I have for Fall 2010:

Advanced Spanish Grammar and Composition (upper division)
Intro to Islam
Russian 1
English Core
French 3

I'm on a semester system and I was wondering if this would be too hard for my freshman year? I'm a linguistics major.

What's the normal course load at your school? (At some colleges the norm is 4 classes per semester; at others it's 5-6.)

Language courses can be a ton of work or walk in the park, depending on the instructor and the philosophy of the department. You might get better advice from students at your college or various course evaluation websites.

One last question: are aspiring linguistics majors at your school expected to take linguistics classes in their first year?

4 classes is the usual course load. But my conselour suggested this to me, but I'm not too sure about it. It's 17units (max). We're required to take 4semester of foreign language (but I've finished the requirement with AP scores and placement test). I'm good at languages but Russian is five units plus two hour lab, spanish is 3 with a one hour lab, and french is 3 units with a two hour lab. haha.

Yeah, I take intro to linguistics next semester along with a French and Russian again. Hopefully it'll be my last semester of french (if I past the final test).

How long is your drop period? You can probably drop one of the classes later on in the semester if you feel overwhelmed.

How are you doing gen ed wise? Is there a concern that you might be falling behind on gen ed requirements if you are taking a full course load of languages in your first year?

The drop period is two weeks.

I'm doing good. Russian/French and Spanish count for two different areas so thats out the way. And intro to Islam is a different section and obviously English. I've gotten out of quantitive because of AP (5 on Calc BC, and 5 subscore on AB) so thats one thing out of the way.
