Is This Too Risky a Way to Start an Essay?

I have been notoriously known by my family to not order from the menu when we go to restaurants.

I was thinking about starting an essay with an anecdote related to this and then leading into how this reflects my creativity, but could I end up just coming across as high-maintenance? Is this too risky?

the wording is too convoluted. make it more concise:
“At family night-outs, I’m notorious for not ordering from the menu.” or something

depends if you want to use it or not. I’d say use something else to demonstrate creativity. Perhaps inventing your menu? :P
