Is this true about dorm partying???

I came across this article on the internet. Are parties, drugs and alcohol really that intense?

If current NYU students could answer I would be very grateful…

This article was written in 2005. As a freshman, I’ll can tell you times have changed a lot. Still, Hayden does retain its title of the freshman party dorm, although Founders is catching up. Alcohol, drugs, and partying are not incredibly hard to find, but that doesn’t constitute the majority of students’ lifestyles. Partying typically occurs on weekends, but a lot of kids don’t have classes on Fridays which means “Thirsty Thursdays” are still in effect. Some people do casually drink quite often, but most people I know do it on weekends or at parties.

It true…my friend at NYU has been through all that. It’s rather horrifying

Every college has it’s share of the drinking and drugs. On a HUGE campus like NYU’s (or at any college as a matter of fact) , it really comes down to what the student wants. If they want a good education from NYU, it can provide them that of course. And if they instead want to party and drink, well, there IS room for that as well. College is what you make of it–and the Hayden dorm is just an example of a party lifestyle that students pursue.

I’m not an NYU Student (sorry!) but my friend Raquel is and this is her (and my) honest take.

Have to agree with Desi - having an older D (Junior not at NYU) attending a college not known for partying, she came home the first semester and said “so much for not a party school”. If a student wants to party, they will find one.

Don’t let any of that scare you though. There are plenty of other students that don’t want to party in “heavy” mode or at all AND there is so much to do in NYC!! After spending 2 full weeks there with S, I still haven’t covered all the neighborhoods I want to explore.
