I have an MS degree in Comp Sci. from a state university where my GPA was 3.3 I have no extracurricular activities/accomplishments except for volunteering.

I am a 34 year old who is interested in getting another degree. Is it wishful thinking on my part to even think about WUSTL. I have passion for education and would like to continue it by pursuing another degree. My undergrad was also in Comp Sci with a GPA of 3.5 and no activities.

I am just typing from my heart and what I want to do and I am not ■■■■■■■■ - I have genuine interest. I graduated from grad school about 10 years ago, I have a stable job but things have become monotonous. But that is not my primary reason. My reason is that I could have done better in my undergrad and grad and would like to prove to myself and redo somethings which were not in my control earlier.

Also, is it true that once I have an undergrad, I cannot go for another undergrad in a different major at WUSTL?

Ask the admissions office, but your best bet is probably to look into what University College offers. I haven’t met, or heard of, a student here that is older and/or getting a second undergrad degree (outside of UCollege, where the vast majority of students are working adults). Doesn’t mean it isn’t possible, though. Good luck.

Almost no undergrad institution in the country will admit someone that has a Bachelor’s already. You can get a master’s degree in a different area if you want, but to be accepted at any decent school you must have done something fairly worthwhile since you graduated.

marcdvl - can you please explain what do you mean by “done something fairly worthwhile since you graduated”

I have been working full-time in soft. dev. field all this long. Can you give me some examples of worthwhile? I have been volunteering, taking an evening class and working full-time even after getting my master’s degree. What else can I do to show my motivation, perseverance and interest?

Your situation is quite atypical for the CC crowd, so I don’t think you will be able to get much help here. Your best bet, as suggested above, is to contact the admissions office and ask your question there.

You need to warrant being admitted to a graduate program. I’m assuming since you posted this here, you want to be admitted to a decent school. Thus if you’re interested in doing a 1 or 2 years masters, having relevent work experience, etc will help. Grades won’t mean much since they were a decade ago. You’ll need the GRE, but besides that you’ll need to show something that warrants being admitted to a top school vs some random state school.

i.e. you could probably be admitted to a CS master’s with your work experience. But you mentioned you were looking for something different; you’ll need to show some progress towards that area (between courses, work, etc.) which can be hard after such a long break from academia.
