Is Tier-1 a reach for me? (Be honest!)

I’m no Einstein and I don’t really want to get my hopes up, but can you all tell me if Tier-1 is a big reach for me?

My GPA is 3.5-3.7 depending on how you weight it, with a rigorous courseload and several AP’s.
SAT score of 1050.
Varsity baseball, captain of speech team, and pianist. And some volunteer work.

Give me your honest opinions. If I’m not Tier-1 “worthy” then I’d rather start looking at other schools than to get my hopes up.

Sorry I meant to say my SAT score is 2050, not 1050!

apply to cornell ed that will probably be your best bet if you looking for a top college

1st Tier schools are a reach for (almost) anyone. You’re certainly not out of the range by any means, but I would certainly get some other schools on your list as well. I’ll put it this way: I don’t think you would be wastin the application fee applying to top tier schools.

What is your definition of Tier-1? Ivy league, top 20, top50 US News Rankings?

you can find plenty of awesome schools with that sat score. but yea, what’s your definition of tier 1?

Not necessarily Ivy League only, but also US News top-tier national Universities (Duke, Emory, UVA, etc.)

I agree with DC. Look at them, but try not to get fixated on them. Tier one is a reach for pretty much everyone, and your GPA is not as strong as it could be. You have a shot, but it’s always good to have less selective schools that you could be happy in, in the event that you don’t get into the reaches.

It may depend upon what, if anything, you intend to do with your ECs. Do you want to play collegiate baseball, participate on a college debate/speech team or give piano recitals. You have the goods, you just need to present them in a convincing fashion. It would help if you broke out your SAT I scores by sections as an 800 writing score will not help as much as an impressive math or CR score. You will also need an appropriate strategy for applying to colleges and universities to maximize your chances for admission to elite LACs & National Universities.

is Gtown a tier 1?

Georgetown University is certainly a tier one school–so long as “tier one” is the highest rating. The top 40 USNews National Universities and the top 33 USNews LACs are “top tier” schools, in my opinion. Most state school honors programs/colleges should also be considered as being in the top tier. There are approximately 2,400 four year degree granting colleges & universities in the U.S. so the top four (4%) percent equals 96 colleges & universities.
