Is Tulane an easy/non competitive school to transfer to? Official brochure says easy

Well, my sister showed me a brochure for Tulane year 2011-2012 he got while visiting there during a tour this summer.

In the brochure there is a section for transfer students

In that sections it directly states
“Typically students with at least 30 credits and a 2.8+ GPA are admitted”

I have the brochure and I had to look twice to see that I wasnt mistaken.

If this is true, that makes Tulane a VERY EASY school to be admitted to. Most schools wont even look at you without a 3.0+. However, I looked at the Common Data Set for the previous 3 years and the transfer acceptance rate has been 17-25 percent with the most recent data being 373 accepted/2128 applicants —> 17.5 percent acceptance rate for transfers. This information from TU and the CDS/Collegeboard is conflicting. I trust the data set more than I trust information on TUs brochure.

Could this misleading information perhaps be used for Tulane to boost their stats? - As in decrease their admission rates. I also know their application is free so that helps it alot too. For a school that is in the top 50, private, Southern Ivy that reputable and has peers such as UMiami, Georgetown, USC, etc, a 2.8+ GPA makes it sooooo easy to get into.

So I’m applying to Tulane, so I understand your question. I have about a 3.0 also and I talked to the transfer advisor and this is what she said exactly.

She said that as close as a 3.0 or above a 3.0 makes you competitive. To be even considered you have to have a 2.7 MIN, but as close to that 3.0 is ideal. So first of all, try to get as close to the 3.0 or above as possible.

Secondly, remember, your extras and essay can really help you. Boost up your ECs and try to be a leadership on a lot of things. Tulane is looking, like most of those big schools are, a wide range of students who are more than just numbers. Make yourself known. Visit, email (but dont bug) write a banging essay, have reconmendations that speak to you, as a person, etc. Boost yourself up so you’re more than just your numbers.

Finally, there is something about those stats that are misleading. Yes only 17 percent get in, but how any of those didn’t have a chance? How many DIDNT complete the application? Remember the moment you “submit” tulanes app (since they dont charge money) you’re consdiered reviewed. Maybe they didn’t turn in their things. When I talked to them they told me about 33 percent is the chance.

But find a way to make yourself remembered.

But also understand, it’s not an easy school. What major are you applying to that helps and affects you. If you’re applying to a major that A) is common in most schools, B) is competitive for Tulane none the less and C)might be close to being full, it’ll be hard for you. They might think "even fi we dont admitt this bio major (for example) every school has bio. Also, they are private so they can do whatever they want.

I know this doesn’t help but you should understand unless you’re a shoo in, this is going to be a hit or miss process and you have to hpoe for the best.
If you think about this in percentages,
