Is UBC, UCI, UCSD or McGill the best choice for English undergrad?

I recently got into the University of British Columbia, University of California - Irvine, University of California - San Diego and McGill University. Which of these is the best choice for an undergrad in English writing/journalism? Which school will best set me up to get into a good graduate school? Which has the most active student paper?

I also was put on the waitlist for UCLA, Berkeley and Reed college. Were I to later get into one of these schools, which would be the best overall choice?

What are each of these going to cost? Would you need to take on debt to attend any of these schools?

The two Canadian schools are both about $20,000 per year in US dollars while the UCs will be about $30,000 per year. I’ll unfortunately have to take out a loan for both. My scholarships also only apply for the two US schools.
