I’ve been reading these forums a lot since I applied for school in Fall. I had a pretty bad history in CC about 10 years ago, so I was afraid I’d have trouble getting in anywhere. The Spring before I applied, I cleaned up my transcript and tried to get things looking pretty.

I applied to Cal State Fullerton and Cal State Long Beach. I never even thought of applying to UCs. When it came time for UC application, I decided I’d give it a shot and see what happens, but it was just sort of a “well it doesn’t hurt to try” sort of thing.

The problem is, the more I read about UCI, the more I want to go there. I’m a science major, and it seems like they have some pretty awesome science departments.

I’ve been accepted to both of the Cal States I applied to, so I’m happy that I’ll get to transfer, but now I’m kind of hungry for UCI.

My major is Physics.
My GPA is 3.60
No ECs of note
Good Essays

I’m an older student (30), if that helps or hurts. I applied to UCSD, UCLA and Cal as well, but those are definitely a reach, and not really a great fit anyway. UCI just seems right for my educational goals. I’m hoping my early college record doesn’t ruin my chances.

You being an older helps you stand out a lot more which is a great thing!!! If a 3.6 GPA is your GPA from a community college than I think you have a great shot at getting since UCI gives guaranteed acceptances to CCC studdents nowadays having a 3.2-3.4 GPA.

Also Im not sure if Physics major is imapcted but do you have all your prereqs completed for UCI??

Other than all that i think you have a great shot at UCI!!! Good luck to you !!!

Yes, 3.6 is my current overall CC gpa. I have finished all the pre-reqs for UCI except C++ programming, which I’m currently taking right now. I don’t believe physics is impacted.

And I’m trying not to get too excited about the school. I mean CSUF and CSULB are good schools, and I’ll get a great education where ever I go, but the more I read about UCI, the more I like it.

Well i dont know if you have ever heard of TAG but in California if you complete CCC with an overall GPA of 3.2+ you are guaranteed admission to UCs like UCI. So I think that means you have an extremely likely chance of getting into UCI especially being an older transfer student. Dont worry about ECs though I think only UCB UCSD and UCLA really pay attention to those for transfer students. Have you been accepted anywhere like the CSUs??

You should have applied to UCSB. They have different programs in the Physics department that are rated top 5 in the country.

UCI has a good program though and with your g.p.a I believe you will get in. You should wait it out for the UC admissions next month till April. UC’s will give you better access to research.
