Is UIUC very Secluded??

Hi guys!
I have an offer for UIUC for Economics . Does UIUC have a bad reputation for it econ course ?? Also, its 2.5 hrs from chicago so is it very secluded in the middle of no where?
Ive heard its like a village town?! Lastly, will UIUC give me good college experience and exposure???

You can compare UIUC to other universities by faculty publishing through this analysis: https://ideas.repec.org/top/top.usecondept.html.

My husband (from NJ) had a fantastic college experience at Illinois and made lifelong friends. There are over 50,000 students and many clubs, sports and activities. It is a nice college town and an easy train ride to Chicago if you want to get out of town. While we don’t know what will happen in the fall with college sports, their basketball team was having their best season in years this past year and regularly filled Assembly Hall. There is a lot of school spirit. Academically it is highly rated and you will meet many smart, accomplished people. One of my husband’s classmates Dave Eggers is a best-selling novelist. Just know that the winters can be cold and snowy. Overall, it is a great choice, academically and socially.

I went to school there and I never thought of it as secluded, but I guess it depends on what you are looking for. The population in Champaign/Urbana is about 230,000 so it’s not exactly a small town. However, it’s not Chicago either. If you want an urban setting, you will not find it there. But, it’s a large college town that has everything you could want and more.

I would hardly call Champaign-Urbana a secluded “village town.” It is a metropolitan area with more than 230,000 residents. Check out the following Wikipedia page.

As home to an enormous university, there is plenty for students to do.
