is undergrad that important?

should I stay in the university of Pittsburgh business school and not bother trying to transfer to a more prestigious, yet much more expensive, program? Say I’m accepted as a transfer to Georgetown. Is the extra price worth it? For me, it’s just a tough pill to swallow because I know I could have been accepted to a better school.

I forgot to ask: Is the extra, say $20,000 a year, worth it in regards to being accepted into a top 10 MBA program later on? Because top MBA programs put a lot of weight on where you had your undergrad.

depends on you ur career aspirations if you’re one of the IB hopefuls then transferrign would be a good idea if you’re thinking about other types of business careers then concentrating on you GPA and EC’s is much more important.

a better undergrad can’t hurt, but it’s ultimately up to you whether or not the return on the investment will outweigh the initial cost. If you want to get into a good MBA program you’d most likely be better off concentrating on work experience. While it can’t hurt to have a top school on your resume, work experience is weighted more heavily.

What kind of work do you want to do upon graduation? Generally, I would advise against transferring to a more expensive school, but there are certainly exceptions.

As for MBA, admissions committees put very little weight on where you went to school. In fact, if the curriculum is tougher at the better school, this could hurt your application (ie a 3.7 at Pitt would look far better than a 3.2 at Georgetown…btw, I don’t know how the curriculums of these two schools compare…just an example).
