Is UT Austin a possibility to me?

I attend a the nationally ranked high school Peak to Peak Charter in Colorado. It was ranked the 29th high school in the nation by Newsweek.

I have a a GPA of a 3.1 but then again my school is anything but easy. I have always taken a rigorous corse load with AP and Honors classes. My ACT score is a 26.

I am student body president and have been involved in Student Council since freshmen year.

I am a varsity soccer player.

I have 3 extremely strong letters of recommendations.

Please help me out, let me know if I have a shot of getting into UT, before I get my hopes up. Thanks

I wouldn’t get your hopes up too high. My daughter goes to Newsweek’s #21 school, and while some classmates outside the top 8% do get accepted at UT, a great many get CAPPED. UT won’t look favorably on your GPA and the rank that goes along with it, and your ACT is 2 points below the average for the freshman incoming class for 2011.

Still, it can’t hurt to apply because you never know what will happen.

Does your 3.1 GPA put you in the top 10% of your class? Class rank is the #1 criteria used in admission.

My school doesnt rank…

If your school doesn’t rank, they will estimate a rank for you based on your GPA.
