Hey guys, I know chance threads are annoying but I’m pretty confused with my chances of getting into to UW - Seattle. I’ve heard everything from, “It’s a lock” to “Only a 30% chance” so I was hoping maybe you guys could help.

GPA: 3.53 (it’s a 3.91 in California … which sucks)

Good personal statement about a heart surgery I had in 9th grade, and for my diversity statement I talked about my annual trips to my Native American reservation with my family
First generation college student
Out of state (CA)

I’ve done more ec’s but UW app only allows 5 …

What AP classes have you taken. It looks like more of a reach because you are out of state. Your GPA is a tad bit low. Your essay is going to be very important so make sure you make it the best essay you’ve ever written. Good luck!

Only one, and it was AP U.S. History my junior year. But that’s because my school is very small/new so there is only one available for juniors. For seniors this year, there are 4 possible and I’m taking 3 (I didn’t see any point in killing myself in AP Physics if regular physics was already such a struggle, and I’m going in as an English major … I actually talked to my Aunt who goes to UW and she recommended not taking it, too)
Really? I thought that UW would like the fact that I was out of state because that would mean I spend more money to go to their school … but I could be wrong.
And thanks! :)

I think you’ll get in. Everything looks strong except your gpa, but you make up for it in many other areas. I would say a match, but then again you never know…

If this was Facebook, I would like your post, Twizzle.

I was told by my Aunt go goes to UW - Seattle that my chances actually increase as an OOS because UW would love to have me more than an instate because I have more tuition to pay. And the institution is in debt. But I guess she could be wrong.

It’s true that, like the UC schools, the UDub is allowing more out-of-state students in than they did 2 or more years ago in order to increase revenue. However, it is still easier to get in if you are in-state.
