is vassar expensive???

i just want to hear opinions from those attending vassar University

expensive in terms of day to day living, or in terms of tuition? i hope the former.

also, its vassar c not vassar u.

hmm … i meant expense in terms of tuition
sry…vassar college

vassar’s total cost per year is about $44,000.00 per year. my D and I just came back from a tour and were told that there is no other college/university with higher tuition.

of course my D loved it and it may be one of her reach schools. Hopefully the fin aid will be there.

George Washington University = more expensive than Vassar ;).

Vassar is expensive, though. I mean, it is an elite private institution. You’re paying good money for a great education.

yea vassar looks great
i want to visit vassar this summer since i live in long island and it is relatively close…
janetkc83 - how did u get there? plane? train? car?

yea George Washington U is like 50,000 i heard

vassar is incredibly expensive… yes, i’m sure there are probably a few out there that are slightly more money, but there aren’t many. it’s way up there with the most expensive ones, that’s for sure!

we live in CT so we drove to the campus. We had been in the area in april and drove by the campus. my D knew nothing about the college at that point and since then it’s become her number one choice. It will be a reach college but as i’ve learn on CC, it’s worth a shot. The academics are outstanding, the campus is beautiful, the professors from what I understand are great. Its the whole package - at $45,000 a year. Ugh. That will be hard as we have a son going into his second year of college.

Vassar is a very expensive school, no doubt (and the tuition will continue to rise each year). Nonetheless, in my experience - and that of many others - Vassar is also very generous with financial aid, which serves to off-set the burden significantly. Some people have gotten away with paying about $10,000 for their entire 4 year education. And, most definitely, I believe the education and opportunities afforded by Vassar are worth the price.

Ultimately, the price tag of any elite private school is going to be roughly the same (25,000-30,000 tuition, 5,000-10,000 room/board/fees). Not much variation. DOnt look at the sticker, look at the price once the aid comes in! That is very the school’s endowment comes into play.

SOOoooo any input on financial aid from here?

Thanks!

Haha, just saw this thread. As many of you know, my bf goes to Vassar, but it’s in our hometown area so I know a bit about it. A list was recently published of the top 10 most expensive schools and Vassar was on it (I think it was in the middle, #6?). From what I know, it’s not the most generous in financial aid, but if you really show a good picture of your situation then you might get enough to be suffice. Don’t expect any miracles, though; a loan or two is just about inevitable.
I did, however, just meet someone whose niece is attending next year, and who received $25k/yr, for 4 yrs, aid package. So it IS possible to get something good.
As a side note, however, this is probably just because it’s a small LAC and doesn’t have all the $ in the world floating around, but financial aid for transfers is NOT need-blind (I investigated, haha). Just something to think about for the big picture.
