Well…
I’m planning to transfer to School of Arts & Architecture of UCLA next year…
I’ve never thought about “escaping” from a tough class, but now I do…
This semester, I unfortunately got the suckiest teacher for my Math 1B (Calculus II)…
Our highest grade for the first exam was 60%, which I got 50%…(the lowest grade throughout my lifetime) and the suckiest teacher doesn’t curve grades…
If I deserved this grade, I would not complain anything anywhere…the trouble is, as a full-time student who is taking four four units class in one semester, I’ve tried my best to keep high quality of each class…however, which I spent most of time on is Calculus! I’ve done tons of homework but failed the test…
(I was considering that my IQ is lower than average before I knew the highest grade was 60%…)
We use Stewart Single Variable Calculus Early Transcendentals 6E as textbook, but not “Albert Einstein IQ Test”…
Our exam does not match our textbook…and what is worse, our sucky teacher DOES NOT TEACH!
He is never on time! Always 15-30 minutes late for the class.
He lacks concentration! Always off-topic!
We learned nothing about maths, but watched many youtube videos during lectures…
Our class is like a chat show, which we talks more about social news/science (such as eclipse)/the day’s weather/stocks/literature/radiation (also iodine)/anything but MATHS…
I have to say that most of us who have finished every problem on the book, failed the test!
After first test, he told us that the rest would be easier, and I unfortunately (again) trusted him…and failed the second test…

Well…the long story ends here…now it’s time to interpret my question…
I want to drop this class and retake it next semester…but since the deadline of dropping class without a “w” passed, I will get a “w” on my transcript…
My major is Architecture Design, and I’ve prepared to transfer to School of Arts in ucla for a long time…
Now I’m confused…

It depends largely on whether or not this class you’re considering withdrawing from a) will impact the necessary amount of units you need to transfer and b) is a major requirement. If you need it for your major and it would make you fall behind the amount of units you need if you dropped it, I’d strongly recommend sticking with it.

But if you have enough units and this is NOT required for your major, absolutely take the W. A W will NOT impact your GPA, and if you have a minimal amount of them, it shouldn’t impact your future or your chances. A C isn’t the end of the world, but if you have a good GPA, a C could bring it down and THAT could lessen your chances of getting in.

Don’t drop the class or take the C. Talk to the dean – if what you are saying is true, he/she will want to know and I guarantee that something will be done.

I doubt they will fire him immediately, but there is a good chance the dean knows what is going on and is looking for supporting evidence. He likely won’t be promoted. I would be surprised if the dean did not change your/everyone’s grade, though.

I would not take the C even/especially for a major requirement. If you can scrape by with a B, then stick with the class. If you think you’ll get a C or below, and you will have time to complete all your major requirements in time for whenever you want to transfer, then withdraw (as long as W’s do not become a habit… so choose your professors wisely!).

thanks for your suggestions!
I just made an appointment with the dean on next Monday. I’ll make a complaint about this incompetent instructor with evidences.

I have a W on my transcript, and I got invited to compete for the regents scholarship at UCLA, which is only offered to the top few % of applicants.
