Forgot, one last thing, I am aiming for Smith school with potentially a double major prehaps at finance related things.

In what world are you dumb? You’re into the University, and I think you’ll have a pretty good chance at Smith.

Give yourself more credit.

Assuming that your weighted GPA goes up at least .1, you should be fine.

Can the last poster please explain why?
Reasons for why I am dumb, I obviously am above average, but as an IB student, I feel so very much outmatched. I came from MYP (program where anyone can get in) and the testing for IB is usually competitive, with around 80+ kids testing for a 25 slot admission, this year, apparently 57 kids took it or so, and 54 got in. MYP at my school is pretty much a joke, its just honors + a big project. Now that I am in IB, I feel so outmatched, people’s talking skills are so much higher than mine, I knew IB focused on seminars and whatnot, but good god, these people are so good at what they say, I barely scrap by with a sentence thats mediocre comapred to their’s. I am also doing terrible in physics and economics (for some odd reason). I just feel that everyone in IB is so much better than me, and the majority (for some odd reason again) go to UMD, if IB ranked my class of 2012, I’d probably be at around 140/150 or so. The average stats of getting in I think is a 3.5 unweighted and a 2100 SAT, but I wanted some input from people going to UMD on my chances.

I do not know what the average unweighted GPA is, but they say that the average weighted GPA is 4.0 I’d guess that the average UW GPA is 3.6-3.8, but don’t quote me on that. UMD doesn’t look at writing, so out of 1600, the middle 50% scored 1250-1400. A 2100 (or 1400/1600) would be considered above average.
Instate, the average WEIGHTED GPA is like 3.8ish… so don’t panic.

judging from the comments here…it appears that UMD seems to be quite a bit of emphasis on weighted GPA, is that true?

They put the most emphasis on SAT and weighted GPA.

They really do consider the difficulty of your courseload heavily.

This makes a lot of sense if you’ve ever been to Maryland schools…the non honors/non AP/IB tracks are definitely a joke. And the IB/AP classes are very serious (usually more difficult than the classes at Maryland).

You are into the university. Not sure about Smith since your UW GPA is on the low side though.
