Well, it’s been one year and I’m not totally healed. Although I had a bunion, it was mild. The bone on top of my big toe was bulging and I had a spur. So,that’s what got fixed.
There is still swelling around that bone. Never gone away. What’s bothering me is that from there and encompassing a lot of the top of my foot it aches. Like I have tendenitis. I can’t walk long distances without it really hurting and forget higher heels for very long. I think it’s gotten worse throughout the fall. I never went to the doc because they say give it one year to heal.
So I went today and he took an X-ray. Nothing wrong. He has no clue and wants to start me on a certain type of anti-inflammatory I’ve never heard of. I can’t do that until I see the urologist,
He said that the swelling around the surgical site isn’t much concern to him because sometimes it will be swollen forever. It was like he was trying to distance the issues I’m experiencing now from his surgery, or that they are related.
Then he said if that doesn’t work he wants to do some type of shockwave therapy. I’ve read it’s very expensive. I’m not sure I totally trust this doctor, although he is highly regarded in the city…or at least well known.
Has anyone experienced this soreness on their foot after surgery. Sometimes it hurts when does press on the top.
I had the surgery on both feet. Several years apart. On one foot the swelling never went down - but I didn’t follow my doctors instructions to not do any activety for several weeks while I was in the boot thingy, and went dancing. Don’t know if that is the reason or not swelling never went down. I never had pain after it healed, though.
@momofsenior1 , did your Mom’s foot eventually get better? I’ll try the meds, but if that doesn’t work, I think I’ll see another podiatrist like you said.
@emilybee , is your swelling down now? If not, I’m surprised it doesn’t bother you. I did everything he told me to.
Unfortunately no, it didn’t get better. The second opinion recommended a revision surgery which she declined. She never wore heels again and we have to be very careful selecting shoes for her now (she has Alzheimer’s).
@BunsenBurner , yes, but not often. It didn’t seem to bother me much as much in the fall as it does. It started hurting real bad in Dec. when I walked on the treadmill for 30 minutes. I had to put my boot back on for a few days. I really think it’s tendinitis. But who knows.
