It annoys me when...

I have a 4.0 unweighted GPA, 2400 on the SAT (first try during freshman year), I have been president of the National Honors Society for two years, president of the science club for three years, president of the Debate Club for 3 years, concert-master of the symphony orchestra for three years, and captain of the varsity football team for four years. I also founded an organization for sick, dying children, and I started a couple of clubs at my school. I am valedictorian at a prestigious private high school. Every teacher I have ever had can write a novel about me, and I have written a couple of novels myself. I also invented a new element. By the way, I am a first-generation student and I am both black AND hispanic. Here are my honors:
[Insert page of honors here]

[Insert whatever the thread was supposed to be about that was not at all relevant to OP’s stats here]

…people list their stats when it isn’t even necessary. It also annoys me when parents want to briefly describe their kids and do so by holding up their kids’ stats like a trophy.

Guess what my stats are?

I have a 3.8 unweighted GPA. I haven’t taken the SAT, I haven’t even taken the PSAT. I am not in any clubs at all and I have never done volunteer work in my life.

I am in the top ten percent of my class (oh yes, you heard me right College Confidential, ONLY THE TOP 10%, not valedictorian!) at a public school with over a thousand freshman, among them d-bags, circus-freaks, elitist shysters, and top-ranked asians, the latter two varieties being the same.

My extracurricular activities are the lower-ranked freshman orchestra and the junior-varsity 3 tennis team, the former of the two I will drop the next year due to a for-no-reason-holds-a-grudge conductor that attacks me for the way I play violin, despite the fact that I was a symphony-player in middle school and this whole year of orchestra has been a vacation.

Oh, and I have never had an English teacher that hasn’t been racist. My English teacher this year held my grade at 89.4 for a good part of the first semester. Not suspicious at all, right? My high-school honors? National German Honors Society.

I’m not an URM because my race was whitewashed.

Releasing the steam, releasing the steam…

First reply: You need to leave College Confidential and come back in 3 years!
Second reply: Will someone ban this guy already? He’s so defeatist. Remember, Sheenr, if you are not the best in your state, you won’t get into one of your top choices, so just accept it already.
Third reply, a parent: My kids stats are a trophy because they worked so hard to achieve them!
Fourth reply, a concerned mom: Don’t worry, you will end up where you want to be. You still have lots of time!

P.S. If you would like to object, include in your post a link to someone that posted their acceptance to any top university on CC that you would say is normal.

elitist shysters, circus freak? Hahahahaha. Your high school sounds a bit eccentric.

…wait, how are you still here?

^^ Oh how I wish it’s eccentricity was that of good recognition. Rather the opposite, or maybe my vocabulary spices up the image and deviates it from what you usually may see. Maybe I see past facades, or maybe I look too deep. Maybe I do both at the same time.

You can tell I like to utilize the concept of paradox. As I began brainstorming to write my application essay, it became a giant work of paradoxical, literary genius. And then I found out that admissions officers don’t like to think while they read application essays :/

^ I know, right? How have I survived all this time without greeting the noose with an open embrace? You may be given more perspective than one may think into this situation just by my rank. Or perhaps it is the opposite.

If it’s any comfort, I wasn’t even in the top 25% of my class, had a 3.3 UW, failed three classes, wrote essays without considering what the admissions officers would think, and got in everywhere except Princeton, including one or two top-20 universities/LACs.

Admittedly, I was very lucky. But you don’t have to be perfect to get in somewhere good.

From where I’m standing, 3.8 UW and top 10% sounds pretty amazingly good. ;)

Is this Sheen from Jimmy Neutron?

so you’re a defeatist who won’t be defeated…ok, I officially am telling you this for the last time, do whatever you want to do, it’s statistically proven that people tend to believe that their alma mater is the best college ever(this includes better than Ivy League) You must have made a million of these threads, this is the third one I’ve seen, and you’re starting to lose me… I can’t actually decide if you’re real or not…or what you’re trying to get at

I’ve tried logic, persuasion, and empathy, from now on I adopt the defeatist mindset you profess and will stop trying to convince you that…you’re a worthwhile human being regardless of where you go? that you can still get into Ivy League? I don’t know, I could tell you that my stats are in some ways worse than yours, but you don’t actually care…

so I give up on you…don’t tell me I’m being immoral, I gave a good attempt, but I can’t change your mind, whatevs, good luck whatever you do and wherever you go…zai jian

^ The Undefeated Defeatist. Sounds good. And it is another paradox.

Big whoop. There are kids like you all over these boards. If you can’t find them you obviously haven’t been looking hard enough. Being defeatist helps nothing. Whining all over these boards helps nothing. What is the point of this thread? This isn’t your personal journal, you know.

By definition, “normal” people (1500 SAT, <3.0 GPA) are not going to get into a top university. Top universities are for top students. But the fact that you seem to think your stats are disqualifyingly-low for top schools is also perplexing. People have gotten into top schools with lower grades than yours (case in point). People have gotten into top schools with virtually no ECs (also case in point). There are entire threads devoted to these topics. And if you are so upset about not measuring up to your imaginary standards, then why don’t you do something to improve your app, instead of spewing resentment all over this forum?

You really suck

You need to leave College Confidential, reestablish yourself with a new, non-biased view, get yourself on track, realize that 98% of people on College Confidential are extremely above average students, make a new username to conceal your identity, and then come back in 3 years :D.

Seriously, you don’t see many morons on College Confidential because what kind of moron is worried about college if they’re content with a 2.4 GPA, like so many kids I know. Of course there will be smart people here, frankly because they are worried and curious about the process of college admission and whatnot.

You need to take a step back, take a deep breath, and realize that you are surrounded by an above average community, many of which are current students attending top ranking schools and posted their stats here during high school to compare to the rest of the above average community.

But actually, don’t come back in 3 years, come back in 1. By that time, you will be finished with sophomore year, almost, and will have a much better understanding about high school and College Confidential.

Until then, I bid you farewell.

A very witty analysis.

Ouchies. I’m normal :(.

I have seen more threads like this where people are venting than the type of threads you’re venting about. The only person I see bragging is taxguy, and he’s a fraud.

Do not feed the ■■■■■.

Thank you for your insights, however.

This should not even be in this forum- this should be moved to College Admissions or HSL.

^^^and what was the point of dredging this thread up after almost three months?!!!

^I have recently discovered that SheenR is a ■■■■■- this user sends malicious PMs and leaves completely absurd chances, along with racist views, discriminating Asians and African Americans.
