It is ok to take Calculus I class in local CC instead of AP Calculus A?

I plan on taking Calculus I in my local CC instead of taking AP Calculus A in my school. Would this be a good decision?

In my math classes, I got Cs in my Algebra II class and Pre-Cal (1st semester). Although this probably has no influence in college admission, my math teachers like to deflate grades. In my school, the teacher I had for Algebra II gave C to me, a B to a couple students, and the class average was C. That teacher is the same one teaching AP Calculus A. I’m good at math but I have bad math teachers.

So in light of my situation, is it a good idea to take Calculus I in local City College? I did not come up with this idea myself, my school counselor suggested it to me.

AP Calculus only comes in AB or BC, not “A”.

But it certainly is a doable option to take calculus at a community college. In some cases, it may match up with your state universities’ calculus course better than the AP syllabus. Check your state universities on how it matches up.

Note that if the CC is on the semester system and the university is on the quarter system, or vice-versa, taking only part of the year’s worth of courses may leave you in a position of having to partially repeat a course. Try to take a whole year’s worth of courses (two semesters or three quarters).
