S is accepted to several programs. What makes a good Info Technology Program? What should we look for? What red flags does a struggling or underfunded program fly?

I won’t be an MIS or IT major but I’ve taken classes and have several certifications. Look at job placement rates, since IT is very career specific. Make sure if your son knows which IT track he wants to follow i.e. Sysadmin that the school has good offerings for that.

I would look to see if they provide vendor certifications (VMWare, Cisco, Microsoft, etc).

For IT programs, I would favor community colleges and state universities with vendor certifications to save money. I don’t feel that the private for-profit schools do a better job even though they frequently charge more. Ensure that you and your son know the difference between IT, MIS and CS degrees.
