<p>Though I’ve been lurking for a little while, I’m still relatively new to this board and thus shall attempt to be brief.</p>

<p>I’m a senior in high school, full IB diploma candidate, pretty decent SATs, mediocre GPA, a good amount of ECs (lots of theatre).</p>

<p>I applied this year to six schools: UCSB, UCLA, UC Berkeley, Johns Hopkins, UChicago, and Yale. The last was a longshot and a pipe-dream, but the rest seemed reasonable. Berkeley was 24%; LA was a bit more than that; UChicago was 33%; JHU was pretty high as well, as I recall. I was made comfortable with the small number of schools by the fact that none of them seemed… well, “out of my league.”</p>

<p>I’ve done a little math based on the wealth of rejection letters I’ve received, and the changes in percentages have served to massage my injured pride somewhat. However, the fact still remains that the only school to which I’ve been granted admission is UCSB… which, frankly, is not a school which I would enjoy attending. </p>

<p>In honesty, I believe the portion of my application which was least polished (read: most crappy) was the essays. I procrastinate by nature, and in the case of applications such an attribute did not serve me well. I’m not about to make the same mistake twice, though…</p>

<p>Therefore: could anyone recommend a few good schools on rolling admissions, or whose deadlines have not yet passed? Schools outside of the US would be great, as well.</p>

<p>The key word here is good. I have looked at the list of late-apply schools, here on CC (taken from USNews), but it’s a little on the long side. I’d still really like to find an academically rigorous school with a good reputation, and perhaps even – dare I say? – an intellectual environment. IB has spoiled me in that regard, and I dislike the concept of being relegated to UCSB, a ‘party school.’ </p>

<p>I’m also considering taking a gap year and reapplying later, but the only thing which I can think of to justify it would be to run off somewhere and volunteer – which personally I would enjoy immensely, but my parents dislike the concept of my sojourning to the third world.</p>

<p>…Brief. Right.</p>

<p>Anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated.</p>

<p>Imo, you probably will not find any school better than UCSB that offers rolling/late admission.</p>

<p>You know, UCSB really isn’t that bad. Even though it has a reputation as a “party school”, it has a decent academic program.</p>

<p>And like noobcake said, you probably will not find any school better than UCSB at this point.</p>

<p>What major did you select for UCSB?</p>

<p>Pre-biology. I plan on changing it to something that suits my interests more once I arrive. I’m hoping to pursue medicine eventually (surgery, dunno what spec.), but pre-bio is not really what I want. It’d be nice to minor in some combo of french/drama/linguistics, and maybe major in philosophy while taking the premed reqs, but… who knows?</p>

<p>Also: in particular, any overseas schools that have dates this late? I know the UK system was waaaay back when but what of others?</p>

<p>Hmmm…well UCSB’s strength is in science and engineering - particularly chemical engineering and physics.</p>

<p>My son chose Truman State University in MO as his financial safety and he will probably end up at Truman. </p>

<p>It is not as intellectually rigorous as the schools you applied to but it appeared to be the best school we could find that son could attend without too much debt if scholarships did not come thru. </p>

<p>Son’s criteria:
intellectually rigorous - most important
LAC
green space on campus
no or low frat
lack of drug/alcohol scene
diversity</p>

<p>Truman has the first three, others to varying degrees</p>

<p>On the downside Truman only allow 25% from OOS. We visited campus and liked it. It is in a small town - maybe 20,000 - which is a problem for some people. Amtrak runs with a couple of miles of Kirksville, which is town Truman is located in.</p>
