Hi there, I got accepted to Ithaca College Park School of Communications and SUNY Cortland-communications major. I have visited both and I just am torn. I can go to either per my parents but wanted feedback what others thought about which is better?
What type of communications are you interested in?
Close to one another but different towns. Which do you prefer?
For journalism, TRF type stuff, Ithaca has a great reputation (historically)…if it’s more general communications, I’d say where you feel best.
Congrats and best of luck.
It is very generous of your parents to pay for Ithaca, as it is a lot more money than Cortland. Can they pay for Ithaca without parent loans (you do not have to answer here)?
You said you visited both schools. Does one speak to you more?
It is my understanding that Ithaca has a very strong school of communications. Are you familiar with the opportunities?
Cortland, to me, is strong for careers in education…and I know a few students who went on to careers in healthcare from Cortland. It is also a school where many are into sports….very into sports. As in…they play for fun …all the time.
Cortland, however, is no slouch when it comes to communications internships. A few examples:
Blackbird Film Festival
Academy of Media Arts and Sciences
CBS
Disney
NBC
Various international and non-profits
Personally, I feel that Ithaca is probably better known for communications and comes with the stronger reputation in this particular field, but if you choose Cortland there are certainly opportunities to take advantage of.
You need to decide which is the better fit for you. Ithaca strikes me as more “artsy,” while Cortland is definitely more sporty.
Closing thread. OP already asked under their other account
