Ithaca vs Adelphi vs Cortland vs Geneseo vs Iona for Communications

She isn’t on the swim team, correct? She just likes the Geneseo team better? I am confused about swimming and what she is doing…wants to do, etc.

Communications can be a tough major. She will need to go after internships etc. Can she pair it with another major?

Yes she will do comm with business marketing. She will be on the college team wherever she chooses as she was recruited. Likes geneseo overall than cortland but comm major at geneseo is blah

Federal work study is only awarded to students who have financial need. Some colleges do have their own work study funds…I don’t know whether Ithaca does or not.

Geneseo is a good school and I am very sure that there are many opportunities for her to explore. In the meantime I would contact Ithaca.

We were told on our athletic visit that Ithaca does not negotiate.

Trick: You don’t “negotiate” :yum:, you ask for “professional judgement” based on (possibly small) new information.

But you said there would be no swimming at any school except Ithaca here ^^.

OP your swimming responses appear to be contradictory….but it seems she can swim at SUNY as well as Ithaca.

You described the communications major at Geneseo as “blah.” Have you researched the internships? I did, and did not find them to be “blah.”

Finances are a reality for many people. If Ithaca is not affordable please find the positives about Geneseo- it’s a very good school.

Good luck!

more so the major in terms of course offerings and different pathways in communications as compared to other schools especially Ithaca

It is my understanding that Ithaca is known for this major…but…it needs to be affordable (avoiding big loans, hardship, retirement funding etc). It was suggested that you contact the school and see if they will offer you more money.

If Ithaca is not affordable then your daughter will have to choose another school and make the most of what that school has to offer.

Unless I am missing something, those are the only options. I do not recommend taking out huge loans, but it is not my decision.

Here is my suggestion. If you think you can fund $2000 a month out of current earnings, start doing that right now. Put $2000 a month into a dedicated savings. See if that is sustainable.

I agree, loans are not the way to go. As mentioned if she’s get this additional scholarship it will be great, if not suny will be the way to go!

Not our experience which is why it can never hurt to ask.
