I’m feeling bad for the kids in the areas hit by the unseasonable snow storm. I suspect many parents won’t allow trick-or-treating where there are no street lights or porch lights, to say nothing of the misery of slogging through slushy puddles–boots never look quite right with those Disney princess outfits!

If the weather is good, we will have 350 or more kids come to our door. Many kids come in vans from neighborhoods that aren’t as safe; I’m happy to to be in a nice neighborhood and to help fill their bags.

No, it’s not that. Door to door to bigger houses is more work.

^^^Actually that’s not the case. It’s a PUD (Planned Urban Development) so the houses are closer together there than my subdivision. And there are mini front lawns, all with sidewalks in the front & parking in the back alleys.

Oh, I see. Not what I thought then.

My son was in town this weekend, and he and his father got into the Halloween candy. Let’s just say my lights may have to be turned out early tonight ;)

I always say to the kids to take one, but the middle schoolers always seem to grab a handful. Once it gets a bit later in the evening I let the kids take more, but I never know from one year to the next how many kids we will have. Last year was a light year, this year, I have already had more kids than showed up last year all night.

I should not blame all the candy eating on the men in the family; I have had more than I needed
Actually, no one is home tonight expect the dogs and I; candy might be my dinner!!

Snowball, you make me laugh! I hope dinner was good!

Had a big rush early and opened the second huge bag…no kids for the last 30 minutes…
And its not even eight… Going to have to find a place to donate the extra. (I think our airport USO will take it for traveling service members to munch on)

Last year I bought 4 bags and had too much leftover. This year I bought one large bag. I think I had it just right. There are not many kids in this neighborhood.

We had half the number of visitors we had last year. I don’t really get why–our town was lightly hit by power outages and all schools were open today. The governor announced that there would be no treats offered at the mansion this year because the situation is much more dangerous for trick-or-treating there. That seemed to start a rumor that he had “cancelled” Halloween in the state, and I’m guessing some bought it. S and I are debating whether it would be Stephen King or Tim Burton who would actually have the power to cancel Halloween…

Uh oh…lots of left over snickers!!!

Four kids total, two of which live next door. The two came over at 4:30, no costumes, but wanted to let us know that they were going to a different neighborhood and wouldn’t be around to T or T later! Yes, I did hand over the goods…

Yapee! Three kids… I was told there will be none, so three is better than none. The kids were from the neighborhood and they came in cars… I did not prepare candy, gave them coins in liu…:)

It was a very nice Halloween in Chicagoland - sunny and not windy, not too cold. We had 118 trick-or-treaters, which was a pretty high number for us since our street dead ends at a park. It did seem like a lot of the kids were from other areas, more so than normal. Also we saw several groups skip our house, possibly because our driveway is next to the neighbors with only a small amount of grass instead of a lawn separating them. Thanks to trees and the design of our doorway, they may not have realized there was a house! So we have almost one of the seven bags left.

We carved two pumpkins - the houses around us are very over-decorated but very few people do an old fashioned jack-o-lantern so ours always seem to get attention.

Got 260 kids. Already made a note in the calendar for next year since we ran out and had to grab stuff from the pantry…

I’d guess 90% of our 300 trick-or-treaters are not from the neighborhood. We had cars parked up and down our street. Apparently one woman lost track of her kids, as she was driving down the street, yelling their names out the window :0

More than 30. Ran out by 8 pm. With a stressed senior at home, I didn’t want to answer the door this year. I had a huge spiderweb made of yarn with candies hanging on the door.

I don’t begrudge people who perhaps choose a SAFER neighborhood than their own to trick or treat in, but I do wish they would park someplace (like a school parking lot or something) instead of the street, OR what I really hate is when they just clog up the street following their kids in the car - instead of walking with them. We live on a corner and one car literally sat at our yield sign (with every other car having to go around them) for 10 minutes while their kid went up and down the block. Geesh.

Oh, and worst costume? The dad who was dressed as a baby. Big guy, big beer gut. Dressed in short shorts with a Depends pulled over them, something wrapped around his head, carrying an oversized baby bottle, with a bib and short t-shirt - short in that his gut was fully exposed and hanging over his shorts. Gross!

abasket, even worse, he may have had a fetish, and this is his one night a year to express it!

Halloween is a happy tradition in my neighborhood, and while I worked an evening shift for a mom with young kids, had someone here in the house to give out candy.

^^ how often do you wear Halloween costumes when its not Halloween?
