With kids in college or some what grown up:), what is your plan this year?

Almost here? On most campuses Halloween started last night and will continue through Monday. My daughter has been busting her backside all week so she “afford” to go to parties four nights in a row. Oh to be young again!

:) I guess no one cares about Halloween once the kids are in colleges. We noramally go to a movie on Hallowen night so to avoid trick or treat. :)

I love Halloween. Have had the house decorated for a couple of weeks, my awesome homemade scarecrow out front - our first year with a dog so we bought him a costume - he’s too cute!
I still have one that may go out (14yr D) and I love passing candy out at home. I often make hot cider for the parents that I know that stop by with their kids and I think this year it will be cold enough to warrant it.

S is coming home from college for the weekend so will bake some pumpkin cut outs for him to take back - and for us to eat too!

No plan. No kids at home or in our neighborhood. Normal Monday night, DH, cat, dog, dinner tv bed.

“No plan. No kids at home or in our neighborhood. Normal Monday night, DH, cat, dog, dinner tv bed.”

Ebeeeee, we are twins.
No plan. No kids at home or in our neighborhood (correction: there are some kids, but they get shuttled out to neighborhoods with more candy per acre). Normal Monday night, DH, 2 cats, dog, American Choppers or Cramer while running 3 miles on treadmill, dinner, CC, bed.

My 12 year old won’t be going out to trick or treat this year. She always went with her big sister every year, but now her sister is away at school.

Living vicariously . . . I got my kids groupons for [Haunted Theater: Fallout](<a href=“Loring Theater For Kids | The Magical Art of Pretend Toys”>Loring Theater For Kids | The Magical Art of Pretend Toys). My daughter has been scouting thrift stores for a Mad Men style outfit and my son has a gas mask and hazmat suit.

I wish they would change Halloween to the last Saturday of October each year. When DD was younger, I enjoyed it so much more when it actually fell on a weekend instead of a weeknight. As a school nurse, I hear a lot of “my stomach hurts” the day after Halloween. My plan is to turn off all the lights and hang out in the empty nest bonus room watching TV with DH. I hate it that I feel that way, but I have no interest in answering the door to many of the same kids I’ve seen at school all day. I’d hoped this would never happen … I’m turning in to that mean woman that lives down the street. :(

Has anyone heard you should not leave your home unattended on Halloween? Must depend on the neighborhood.

We left the house, attended by a large GSD but no humans, last year, and it was still standing when we came back at 2 am. It probably depends on the neighborhood. In my old neighborhood, I’d think twice about turning the lights out/no candy or leaving the house unattended!

Still have young kids–there will be pumpkin carving and trick or treat. Costumes this year are a monkey, an angel, and Pocahontas. Hundreds of kids in the neighborhood, but few make it to this dead end street (35-40?) My kids already ate the two bags of candy I bought to pass out, so I need to pick up some more before Monday. Weather should be good!

I sent both D’s a box of Halloween decorations and candy in the mail. D1, a derivative trader at an Investment Bank living in Manhattan, said it was “awesome.” She is having a party and will now decorate her apartment. She already put up the orange lights I sent.

D2 is a senior in college. A few people noticed her “goodies” in her room and asked where she got them. When she said her mom sent them, they remarked that it was really cool and their mom’s didn’t do that.

I also decorate the outside of the house for autumn and a bit for Halloween. And I love to hand out candy. I enjoy seeing the kids and their costumes.

Let’s just hope we do not have 5 inches of snow!!

My freshman D has basketball practice Monday from 5-8 p.m. We live on a rural state highway and get no trick-or-treaters. I stopped buying candy years ago. We have an empty rental in our nearby tiny town. We are waiting until Tuesday to put the For Rent signs out, so I’ll be glad it’s over.

We already had Halloween here. I’m not sure why, but many communities in central PA have their official trick-or-treat night 6:00-8:00 PM on the last Thursday in October. Some communities (not ours) changed at the last minute to October 31 because Thursday was cold and drizzly. Despite the crappy weather, we still had 75 kids show up. Had to send DH out to buy more candy! :D

Yes, it is true that you should not leave the home unattended on Halloween. The first time we did that we had eggs on our window and toilet paper in the trees and catchups all over the place.

However, after we moved to CA, since the house is on a slope and it is hard for kids to climb the slope to trick or treat, we have not had anyone come to the door for over 10 years.

We normally take kids in the neiborhood to trick or treat in the indoor mall, its warmer and lot more profitable.

I love Halloween, too. I decorate (quite extensively) on Halloween day (and take it down the next morning) and buy the full size candy bars at Costco to hand out. The neighborhood kids tell me that they look forward to coming to my house. In our cul de sac we stand outside and drink wine. It’s like a party.

Needless to say,I am not happy that it is snowing outside right now.

We get between 220-240 trick or treaters each year between 6-9pm. Our subdivision used to be the last one going west out of our downtown area, so lots of people from the rural areas would trick or treat by us. We thought the newer subdivision just west down the road would siphon kids away, but apparently bigger houses=bigger mortgages=lousy candy ;)

I LOVE HALLOWEEN! So much so, that 19 years ago I choose that day to have a baby. LOL Actually, she is so strong willed that SHE chose it. And loves having a Halloween bday.

I second the wine and visiting with the neighbors idea. For years we have enjoyed a glass or two while oohing and ahhing over the cute little ones, and teasing the teenagers still brave enough to go out. Love it, love it, love it.

I don’t mind seeing my students. It’s kinda fun to see them in a different light.

In 23 yrs I have never had a single kid come to my door. We live pretty rural and the kids like to go to the areas that they get more candy for their effort. The bonus is I don’t have to buy any candy that will be tempting me to sample it.
17 yr old wants to go trick or treating but hasn’t a firm plan yet. She has a community college class till 730 pm. She is appalled that they dare to have class on Halloween night. I keep reminding her she is NOT to miss her class.
We live in a college community that has a wild Halloween reputation. I am just happy my HS D doesn’t want to go party in IV. My recent college grad is up at his old university this weekend for Halloween. He will come home tomorrow night and be back to late to hit the local University happenings. Thank goodness!
