and taken on another foster dog! Ten years ago, I fostered then adopted an English Setter. He’s still with us, has medical issues, but easy going and very loving. A year ago, I fostered, then adopted a 3 year old abused female mini schnauzer. Also still with me, and very much the queen of the house. Last week an unexpected call landed me with another foster, a 9 year old neutered male mini schnauzer. He is grumpy, half blind and has other minor health issues (most can be corrected with time) but house trained and loves us. My past indicates that he will be with us until he passes away. My kids swear I adopt a dog each time one of them leaves…

Alittle tired with all the extra work right now that the new dog needs, extra vet appts, grooming, walking seperate from the others, and reassurance but handling it. Guess my nest wont be all that empty in August…

You are a good person and I wish there are more like you !

On the other hand, my friend with the 3 sons and 3 dogs and a cat used to say “… till the last kid leaves and the last dog dies …” :)

sunnie – I had 4 cats until recently. Now I have 6 cats. #5 came home with me from the office parking lot. She was to be a trap/nueter/release. Can’t bare to put her out. #6 rode home in D’s wheelwell during her recently ended short duration at home after soph year/before summer research program. Our dog discovered this tiny, frightened kitten and H fell in love. Just what I needed!

Its like a three dog circus around my house. So far I havent had the time to dwell on my two girls leaving in August. I actually made progress last night, walked the two males together for a half hour, at heel position with NO Cujo snarling dog moments…Dang I was so proud of everyone that I gave treats all around! I’m going back to school in the Fall, its just doggie obedience classes with the two schnauzers, but that counts doesnt it?

For a second there I thought you were my sister, but you are about 6 more dogs short. My sis seems to manage 9 dogs at a time, she can never say no. She has so many I can’t keep up, and she keeps saying we’re not getting more as each one dies we won’'t replace them and get down to 4…well 2 of them died within days of each other a couple of months ago and when she went to put them down, the vet pleaded with her to foster another dog…needless to say she did.

Fostering is great! Our newest dog is a white boxer from a rescue society and has the sweetest disposition.

And in the last two days I’ve taken all three of them to the vet for annuals and vaccinations, meds, etc. Ouch!! But it is cheaper than therapy!

I’ve been doing dog rescue for the past 7 years. We call people who adopt their fosters “foster failures” ;-)

Best to you and your pooches.

sunnie - thought you’d want to know that new kitten will be going BACK to the vet and me probably to a doctor – seems she’s given me some kind of rash!

Guess I am a double failures and I think destined to be a three time failure in a few weeks. Donnie the aging schnauzer is quite a grounchy old man, I dont think he will be very desirable to anyone. He is sweet but grumbly and did I mention half blind and has gas…

Maysixmom, usually its just my kids that give me a rash… what kind of rash has your kitten given you? Thats kinda scary…

Just got off the phone with the vet and I’m SERIOUSLY angry. Although I repeatedly told them I didn’t want to expose my other cats to this kitten until she’d been thoroughly examined & tested, the apparently didn’t look for mites! She has mange mites!!! They’re doing the skin scrape & dip for free, but I’ll still have to pay for the Revolution treatments and keep her isolated for 3 weeks during treatment! And I’ll have to watch the other cats for symptoms (fortunately only 1 of them has given her any attention - the others hide from her). And we have to call our human MD to get treatment for us and D who already went back to campus! UGH!!!
