Don’t forget to celebrate Pi Day with a piece of pie, preferably at 3:14 this afternoon!

I’ve got the ice-cream ready!

Next year’s pi day will be 3.1415

^And you can be extra celebrative at 9:26 :)

It’s my Dad’s birthday and he is a retired math teacher!!
He’s always liked pie better than cake.

Love that, @SnLMom! We just had pi, er, pie a bit ago. Yum!

My kids birthdays make Pi: 0314

And MIT decisions are posted @6:30 pm Eastern today, and Caltech’s decisions last night.

I think forever, I will associate Pi day with MIT.

We had a Pi day pie contest at work today. Emeril Lagasse’s Lemon Ice Box Pie won… divine! 8->

Had too much pie… :-&

Oh, emerald. ;

Pi is the equivalent to 22 over 7 which is about 3.1415926. Next year, On March 14, 2015 (03/14/15) at 9:26…it will be the Pi Days of ALL the Pi Days. Get ready because it WILL be epic.

I hear it will be the Nerd Rapture.

I hear it will be the Nerd Rapture.

I made an apple/cranberry pie for pie day and inscribed the pie symbol (poorly) into the pie with the cranberries. While baking, I had a thought: why aren’t apples, and fruits in general, perfectly spherical? A sphere is the smallest surface area required to enclose a volume, (or the largest volume that can be enclosed by a given surface area) so you would think that it would be an evolutionary advantage to have perfectly spherical fruit, since then seeds can have more food per amount of peel needed to contain it, thus theoretically allowing them to survive more often than foods with less than spherical shapes.

So I can’t figure out why apples (or for that matter pears,) come in deformed shapes rather than spheres.

It was a fairly mathematical and delicious pi day to say the least.

Nature doesn’t need to rely on spheres for it has the Fibonacci sequence.

Thanks for the reminder! Almost forgot. Now I have a REAL reason to run to the restaurant and grab a slice of Hula pie to go.
Mr B will not be happy!
