That amazing super fresh “water” smell that you only get a few days a year, when you go outside and it’s really cold, but not too cold. I smelled it yesterday, and it was so good. I asked my son, who was out getting firewood, if he smelled it too. He hadn’t noticed it, so we opened a window together and smelled it again. Priceless.
Drinking my morning coffee while reading my morning paper.
Going for a walk or run outside, breathing in the fresh air and noticing the trees, flowers. birds, change of seasons, etc.
Feeling a hot shower after a hard workout.
Seeing a beautiful sunrise or sunset.
Reading a really great book.
Hearing/reading something that makes me laugh out loud.
Waking up late on a Sunday morning after a terrific night’s sleep.
(This sounds so entitled but) Walking into our beach house after a 16 hour drive, finding it just the way we left it, neat and tidy, with a bottle of wine waiting in the fridge.
That first warm day in spring when you smell the thawing earth and can’t wait to get your hands in it to plant your seedlings. The first bulbs pushing up and and the first robin.
That dead-tired satisfaction when you’ve dusted, swept, vaccuumed, bathed the dog and mopped all day and you throw the last bucket of dirty water down the loo.
And the smooth floor on your bare feet the next morning once you’ve had a good night’s sleep.
