This thread has inspired me on a dark and dreary day! So just started a batch of whole-wheat bread. D is at a friends’ house and will be happy to come home to the smell of yeast
Everything everyone else has said.
The look on your kid’s face when he spots you waiting for him on the other side of the security gate at the airport.
That first hug.
Thar final bear hug at drop off. Then watching him walk toward the airport doors, drop his bags, and come back for just one more.
Seeing daffodils and tulips at Trader Joe’s reminding me that spring and longer days are on their way.
When I was a kid seeing the pretty icing flowers on a birthday cake. My sisters and I would pick out which flower (roses) we wanted on our slice of cake.
The feeling of the sun’s warmth on a cold day.
My cashmere wrap that keeps me cozy while I drink a cup of tea or coffee on a cool Sunday afternoon.
Seeing how lush and green the trees and grass look after a spring rain. (Can you tell what’s my favorite season?)
Going for a walk at the Tidal Basin early morning when the cherry blossoms are in full bloom and watching the sunrise.
Watching and hearing the waves come up on a sandy beach and then reverse back into the ocean.
Beautiful sunsets.
The first day when you can smell fall in the air, or the first time you smell the fresh cut grass for the season. Watching your children do what they love to do and dwelling with pride, not because they’re the best or special, but because you know how much passion and time and hard work they’ve put into it.
Aww @raclut, you’re back! Where have you been ? (The med school forum?)
@Choatiemom, knowing what your son does, I got a lump in my throat.
Standing in front of my kitchen sink with warm air blowing on my toes. It feels so snug.
Seeing the first signs of spring.
Going for a walk.
Chocolate.
Having my family together.
Getting photo and video updates of my grandchildren.
At 6:06 AM, hearing the grinder on my coffee machine go off, because someone so thoughtful set it up the night before. (That would be me.) It’s as if someone else has made my coffee for me!
A hug. The sound of a baby laughing (I know it’s cheating to listen to a Youtube video but if you don’t have access to a baby, that’s what you do )
Just dropped my S and 2 friends at college.
Watching your S and 2 friends feeling excited about being back at college.
Dang it, why are my eyes wet?
My first cup of coffee each day.
The sound of the waves at my favorite beach.
The wind in the trees.
A beautiful fire on a cold, cold day.
Holding my grandbabies.
The moment the heated seats of my car kick in.
Holding hands.
Best thread ever!!
Climbing into bed on a cold night under piles of blankets.
Sunsets.
My dogs excitement when I come home.
Hikes.
Having my H tell me I’m beautiful when I don’t feel it.
Seeing my D’s phone number pop up unexpectedly to FaceTime.
The day the farmstand opens for the season.
Exchanging a smile.
The first sip of morning coffee, delivered to the nightstand courtesy of DH.
The ocean.
The feel of worn cobblestone streets underfoot.
When your kid washes the dishes
That smell when you open a new box of black tea
When your home team wins the big game and the whole city is happy
When your cat curls up on your lap
When your teenager invites friends over with no notice and everyone is hanging out laughing and not caring how messy the house is
@ChoatieMom , I almost teared up, too! Sending you a hug from this stranger.
That first cup of tea when you come in on a cold day.
The cat jumping onto your lap.
The felicity of having a fire to sit over and think of it.
I see so many of you mentioning being on the water. I am so jealous, I live so far away from the ocean myself! I need to spend more time on the river…
Edited to add: a hot water bottle on cold feet at night.
Meeting and connecting immediately with a new friend.
My 2 sweet dogs curled up with me in the recliner.
A 2 hour lunch with an old friend to catch up on life.
A message/call from either of my daughters with good news about their endeavors.
Laughing.
Hugging my daughters.
Getting that elusive “just right” photograph of something in nature.
Warmth (any kind, human or nature).
