It's the little things in life

Knowing my kids are happy
Wathcing my daughter sing (gets me every time)

Chocolate…anything

A great cigar/ and the conversation that goes with it

DH is right there with you, @rickle1, about the cigar (accompanied by some fine whiskey). He is happy in his soul among his cigar aficionado friends at his weekly Spirits & Cigars club. So I’ll add one more:

The joy of having the house to myself at least once a week.

Listening to Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me and laughing & laughing!

Getting into my hot tub each night.
The smell of the ground and air after it rains.
Hanging out on the couch with my D’s.
A strange one is going grocery shopping with my youngest.

Being at a big family event and watching my two children (ages 35 and 30) behave like mature adults with their far-flung, rarely seen relatives.

Sitting under my heated throw and reading a good book (this time of year)

Sitting on the screen porch and reading a good book (much prefer THAT time of year)

Traveling for work and client dinner cancels - being left to my own devices in DC, Miami, or Chicago with no family. Free to enjoy a craft cocktail or three at the hotel bar, nice expensed sushi bar dinner, return nightcap at said hotel bar, and reruns of criminal minds with noone yelling or screaming for my attention. Absolute heaven

Sneaking away to a matinee in the middle of the day by myself, and sitting down in an empty movie theater with a tub of buttered popcorn and an ice-cold root beer. Then the movie begins.

Love these!

Waking up and realizing it is Saturday and I got a good night’s sleep!
Having a relatively prolonged talk with my recent college grad for no reason at all
Spending a day in the City with friends and having the sun shine (which has been rare lately).

Spending a cold Sunday afternoon in the art studio and being happy with what I created.

Getting texts from my kid about how much she loves the nice warm jacket I gave her for Christmas and how it’s keeping her so nice and WARM!

Great thread. Late to the game so many of mine have already been said. I don’t think I saw this one but it happened to me today…

After being gone for a couple of days, seeing my dogs’ wagging tails while jumping up on the fence when I pulled into the driveway.

Reading a letter that arrived in the mail while I was gone, from my son who had been away on a high school retreat, expressing all the things he appreciates that we have done for him

Helping my oldest move in to her first apartment last week and seeing her excitement buying new furniture and decorating with her roommate

Waking up next to my DH… Always a great way to start the day.

This blanket. I seriously say out loud almost everyday how much I love it for it’s super coziness:

(got it on sale)

Also, being able to do the wash after DH and I fixed the broken washing machine all on our own with a little help from the internet. Big thanks to my super handy Dad for showing me growing up that you really can fix things on your own with patience and some good instructions.

Meeting by chance last night someone who grew up in my 1895 house while her parents rebuilt it in the 1980’s from the hand-hewn, pegged beams. Today she friended me and then sent me 30 pictures from the gutting and also when the house was originally built, including with that family on the front lawn with the house in the background.

This makes me SO happy. I love houses with history!

They sky over the lake first thing in the morning and last thing at night.

The hugs from my kids…the ones where the hug lingers a little longer and a little tighter.

Exclamation points in a text that show happiness.

Walking through the greenhouse for the first spring flower buying trip.

Summer evenings stretched out on the deck chaise lounge with a book and the sounds of the neighborhood in the evening.

The smell of marinara simmering on the stovetop.

Oh! Meant to say this one - it deserves it’s own post…

When you are out in public and you lock eyes with a young child and you get that big smile.

Finding little things around the house to pop into the USPS flat rate padded envelope that we know will bring smiles and joy to our loved ones.

Using “Expensive” little things: toilet paper, Kleenex, glass storage containers with perfect fitting lids etc…and appreciating how much more pleasant they are than the cheap stuff I used to buy.

A gentle rain storm and a nap

Organized closets

The first warm day when all the dirty snow melts away

The yeasty smell of home baked bread.

The ability to do a random act of kindness by buying a light ICEE refreshment for our fire fighters on a beautiful, hot sunny day. The were surprised and grateful!
