Running into your neighbors at the local civic association meeting and finding that you all share the same opinion on the issue du jour.
So many of the above mentioned things. Upgrading to upper middle class expenditures is something I really understand.
Unexpected show of affection from H- that random brief touch/hug that tells you he still cares.
Likewise a conversation with son when he NEVER answers his phone.
Finding out that neighbor shares opinions- who knew given the generation/religion differences.
Realizing you can still do so much and are a lot healthier than many. Glass half full- not half empty…
Thanks for posting this @wis75 . So very true.
Yesterday, we were having breakfast at one of the places we often frequent. The waitress is one we’ve had before and she mentioned in passing that sadly her car’s radiator gave it up on the road the other day and naturally, she seemed a bit distressed by it.
When we were paying our bill, I had my husband quietly slip her $100 bill to help with her radiator. She was so surprised and relieved. It made all our lives a little bit better.
These little random acts of kindness can really help make our world a bit better.
Sitting by the fire, Don Giovanni on the stereo, on a gloomy snowy winter day.
Today while I was eating with my folks at a restaurant, another customer who was ordering takeout ordered one meal for herself and a second one for the homeless woman outside the restaurant. I thought that was very thoughtful of her And thanked her for her kindness.

Search Kiki’s Kindness Project. A kindergartener wanted to pay off kids’ school lunch debt at her school. She launched a series of fundraisers and ended up paying off entire district’s school lunch debt! Yay for the next generation.

We are leaving a resort, and know the people in the dive shop will eat/drink any leftovers. We give them ours. My SIL was just on the porch talking to the neighbor, about all the food they were dumping out. She said “Oh no - just take it to the dive shop.” They were especially happy when we won a bottle of champagne and left it with them.

This is more of a story than a list of things. I was in my local library yesterday; the fiction and nonfiction sections are separated by a row of round tables where people can sit and read or study, etc. Out of the corner of my eye, I noticed an African-American lady at the table (I am white). She came up to me and said “Excuse me. Has anyone ever told you that you have a twin?” and then proceeded to tell me that I looked just like her best friend Marsha who is in heaven now. I said “You must have been startled when you looked up and saw me” and she laughed. It really touched me that she would even take a few moments to talk to me. Made me feel kinda special.
Like so many of these other posts, it means a lot to just take a bit of time with folks.
Son, now 30, exchanging emails re Covid19. This is the kid who consistently ignores emails and phone calls- when push comes to shove he can come through. He worries about us old folks and we worry about Seattle.
