You know, after my recent rant on the Honors programs (which I might add, was only partly justified), I feel compelled to complement Indiana University on one thing they do extremely well–which is automate so many things at the university and have a high-uptime system that is user friendly.

From the registration itself, to the Onestart page, to the Oncourse pages to the schedule of classes to the ability to access data on programs and events, I really think the IU system can’t be beat. Even when they had an internet outage in the dorms during the last week of classes at 11 PM at night, it was fixed in a matter of hours–and the computer labs were all kept open for the students to use as backups.

And it’s just as easy–if not easier to track the payments, financial aid, and FAFSA data relating to a student–something I’m sure must be a difficult thing to automate internally–so providing the data externally is impressive.
