<p>campus is totally safe, & the main street leading from FT to main campus (el colegio) is very well lit up & riddled with cops. buddy system need not be necessary, (unless you need a study buddy). However… the closer you migrate towards the beach, the crime rate will increase exponentially until you are about waist deep into the Pacific Ocean.</p>
<p>Santa Catalina to the main campus doesn’t have to involve going into IV. You would just be treading on the edge of it, which, as mentioned above, is safe. So no, you don’t need a buddy for that.</p>
<p>IV is notorious mostly for petty and property crime. Usually, these things happen because of unlocked doors/windows, parties, or other opportunities for crime. Direct crimes, like violence, mugging, and sexual assault are much less common, but do happen occasionally. It’s typically something associated with the nightlife and happens mostly on weekends.</p>
