<p>a teacher at my school told me about this site and said that i should ask what people on here say about my chances about going to college. i joined a while ago but this is my first time posting. so she said i have like a pretty good shot at getting in somewhere, but im nervous about this since no one in my family has gone to college before. I’m a black male and I live in a low-income neighborhood with gangs and stuff.</p>
<p>I go to a school where i’m ranked 2/4000, but most people dont care at all about school and a lot of people drop out after junior year.</p>
<p>I have all A’s and im in the hardest classes at my school, except i’m nervous because I got a B- freshman year</p>
<p>I’ve never taken the SAT, but i got a 35 on the one that our school made us take. Idk if this means anything but it was the highest score my school has ever seen and they gave me all this scholarship money and stuff. I also got 790 on math sat II and 780 on US history. I also have a lot of mexican friends at my school and they taught me enough spanish to get a 760 spanish sat ii.</p>
<p>My school also doesnt offer many “APs” since no one takes them but my teachers worked with me outside of class preparing me for some. I got a 5 on bc calc, stats, comp sci, 5 on ap spanish (yo thanks miguel), 5 on ap us, 5 on gov, 4 on bio, 4 on chemistry</p>
<p>So yeah heres what i do for “extra curriculars”
-i really like history/politics
-i read a lot of free books on the internet about science and math theory
-i’ve never done track or anythin but i can run a 4:12 mile
-i’ve used what little school equipment we have to assemble a few apps for the iphone for our schools teachers. we could only afford iphone 3s so i had to beta test on that
-i was given money to go to a college in my city and do research for them. I was doing stuff with biochemistry and the college paid for me to publish a book about my findings that they sold to other colleges like mit and cal tech
-a lot of people i know in my city play chess for drug money, so i got good at that, but i started our school’s chess team (currently 10 members) but we havent won anything yet. I went to state though as an individual and got 3rd
-i started my own clothing brand for my neighborhood and i’ve actually made like $10,000 a year from that
-i also rap a lot and me and my friend have been producing music and selling cds to people on the street. we’ve made like $5000 and we perform at talent shows and stuff at my school. our biggest hit was “mista bossy” from our album i will find you and it was played on the radio for a bit
-i have to have a job at a grocery store to help support my family</p>
<p>i really want to go to at least a state school, but some people told me i could maybe get into the ivy league or whatever. Im not that smart but is it worth a shot?</p>
